ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about a computer system named ARK-2 in its use for facility programming. The basic concept of ARK-2 is the realization that, through constant man-machine interaction, many aspects of the design process can be handled by the computer, more design issues faced, and more criteria investigated. Through methodological processes incorporated in a computer, humans have the ability to comprehend, react, and respond in a more wholistic and efficient manner. The computer technologies available today allow us to accumulate and apply information in a more meaningful, interactive approach. The Comprograph program deals with arithmetics, text, and graphics; it simultaneously provides the major data base for Comproplan, which is a more logic-oriented program. Application of computer technology allows the architect to develop a multifaceted, multilayered approach to design rather than a single design philosophy. These design philosophies can then be used as ingredients in the search for a strategy for design solutions.
