ABSTRACT

Byron, The Corsair (1814); Critical Review, 4th Series, V (Feb. 1814) , 144–155. The critic objects to the unreality of Byron’s supposed pictures from nature. Domdaniel and Padalon (p. 154) are mythical places from Southey’s Thalaba the Destroyer and Curse of Kehama, respectively. On page 155 three of the four high-souled villains are leading characters in Scott’s Marmion and Lady of the Lake, and Southey’s Curse of Kehama. (“Bertrand” remains unidentified.)
