ABSTRACT

[John Hamilton Reynolds] Benjamin the Waggoner (1819); Monthly Review, 2nd Series, XC (Sept. 1819), 40–42. The Monthly’s attack on Wordsworth also takes the form of giving equal time to parodies of his writings. Reynolds’ Peter Bell, A Lyrical Ballad had been reviewed immediately following the notice of Wordsworth’s Peter Bell (though we have not included that review in these volumes), and here Reynolds’ less successful parody of The Waggoner is given almost as much attention as Wordsworth’s serious effort.
