ABSTRACT

As strength and conditioning coaches, it is very likely that we will work with a multitude of athletes across a variety of sports throughout our career. We are likely to work with males and females as they progress through childhood, adolescence and adulthood. Equally, with the ever-increasing popularity of the Paralympic Games, we are likely to work with many disabled athletes, across numerous sports, each presenting with different disabilities. As coaches, then, we need to be prepared and, before we even start working with them, understand the demands of each type of athlete and those of the sport they wish to excel in; that’s where this book comes in. Herein you will find details pertaining to the strength and conditioning programming of over 30 sports, with the preceding chapters explaining how these can be adapted to suit your particular population (i.e., young, female or disability athletes). Each chapter is authored by experts in the field; this book as a whole has been written by over 70 experts from across the globe.
