ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to provide the reader with a well-rounded introduction to the multiple factors and variables associated with working in Alpine Ski Racing. It will outline the physiological demands of the sport, common injuries, as well as how to effectively test, programme, and organise training. The reader should be confident to take the knowledge and be able to plan a battery of relevant tests, plan a strength training programme with the appropriate exercises, and fit these around a weekly and annual plan. The information presented should help the coach include all the essential elements needed to develop a balanced and versatile ski athlete, as well as adding variety to the training week through bringing creative training ideas and activities.
