ABSTRACT

This chapter will outline practical considerations and scientific literature regarding impairment and sport-specific training programming and profiling for disability athletes. The ever-growing range of impairments participating in disability sport and the fully individualised approach required to support high performance athletes means specialised training information is often beyond the scope of most text-based resources. However, a number of key generic principles do exist, which provide the foundation upon which bespoke strength and conditioning programmes can be implemented. These are discussed within this chapter, and as such, will enable coaches to develop effective programmes for disabled athletes.
