ABSTRACT

Presentations delivered by architect/developers were reacted to by social science consultants and participants from all aspects of the private and public sectors. This presentation will expand on the Design Evaluation Workshop Technique, conducted twice recently by the members of this panel. These programs featured in-depth exploration of the design decision making process through the review of architectural drawings and models of elderly housing. While housing for older adults contains specific content areas generic to aging, there is, however, a large body of issues that are generalizable to the entire housing and building scene. The changes associated with age encompass health status and energy, mobility, opportunity for companionship, and the financial ability to occupy or maintain adequate housing. The content analysis of the issues and details discussed at these workshops can lead to the isolation of a series of points that need investigation, refinement and recommendation.
