ABSTRACT

While Christian thought was antithetical to that of the Sceptics both in tenor and in content, the Academic philosophy of Cicero leaves a deep impression on both Minucius Felix and Augustine, the latter being both the most important Christian critic of scepticism and a witness to the history of the school. Eusebius is the sole trident of a pagan caricature of the genealogy of the Sceptics, while Arnobius is a rare example of the strategic use of sceptical tropes by an apologist for the church.
