ABSTRACT

This discussion of the theological tractates of Boethius and his Consolation of Philosophy will show that the principles of his thought were Christian, although he draws heavily on Platonic and Aristotelian traditions, making an original application of the logic of relative terms (the fourth of Aristotle’s categories) in his exposition of trinitarian doctrine. The chapter is framed by a biographical preface and a concluding meditation on the proximity of Boethius shrine to that of Augustine in Pavia.
