ABSTRACT

In this chapter, this author explores the concepts of Global Law and Global Ethics and how they interconnect on a global scale in forming a universal set of Global Ethics. It considers that the relationship between law and ethics in human society is fundamentally centered upon law as a public (external) expression of an ethical (internal) requirement in society. It further explores how this relationship has been transformed through the years as a result of the evolving nature of different global understandings of religion, morality and ethics and how this has consequently shaped the rise of a global civilisation towards a Global Law and a unified declaration of Global Ethics. This author ultimately concludes that whilst Global Law needs to faithfully reflect Global Ethic that Global Law should also contribute to the shaping of Global Ethic, for ethics, as all human realities, remains an evolving ethic.
