ABSTRACT
In Toronto there is a new Science Centre which has been designed with many facilities that permit the users to “learn by doing”. If you go there on a weekend sedate children use the facilities in the way the designer intended The main reason the children use these facilities in the “correct” way is because their parents are present. During the week when parents are usually not present the Science Centre is filled with excited children playing hide and seek, sliding down elevator railings and generally using the physical environments in ways for which the designer had never planned.
