ABSTRACT
Early quantification is exploratory, illustrative, and often demonstrates only the obvious. Quantification in Environmental Design Research has proceeded through different stages, even though there have been a number of established fields dealing with similar problems for some time. Environmental Design Research has now caught up, and although it still borrows methods and techniques, it is no longer tentative and exploratory. The four papers in this section are representative of a wide range of quantitative research that is only marginally self-conscious. They are more than mere applications of techniques; they are more than merely illustrative.
