ABSTRACT

A theoretical framework for the environmental stress and environmental flexibility concepts has been presented. The physical stress model has been employed to draw an analogy and to construct the environmental stress-strain model within the “internal ecological process.” The implication of this constructed model has been focused specifically on the housing process and on the design of housing. Possibile indicators of strain in the housing process have been stated. Propositions which will aid the design process and which will also help to shed light on some of the hard pressing problems of housing have been set forth.
