ABSTRACT

Whatever might be the fate of the proposal of the Anthropocene Working Group to create a new geological epoch (likely to be answered in 2016) at the International Commission of Stratigraphy, the term has already been adopted by many scientic communities, in particular by the specialists of Global Change, and embraced by a wide audience. Despite the current debate surrounding its dating and causes, it has proven its usefulness to synthetically designate a global phenomenon, which until then had only been addressed in a fragmented way and which did not allow to account for its severity and complexity.
