ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book describes the role of the dramaturg calls for the supplementation of scholarly research with a kinesthetic and embodied understanding of the impact of a theatrical production. It is in conversation and acts in tandem with Romanska's anthology to further contemporary discourse and dialogue about dramaturgy – in particular as it relates to the body. The book focuses on both textual and devised theatrical performances in relation to physical dramaturgy, it is important to note this paradigm shift. It examines multiple methods used in a range of settings by a variety of artists who build on, integrate, and/or adapt existing methodologies as well as create new exercises to achieve the desired results. The book demonstrates, physical dramaturgy functions within a variety of contexts requiring a physical connection to the work.
