ABSTRACT
In this chapter the authors provide an overview of agent-based modelling, its orgins and applications to studies of networks and collaboratives. Following some historical background, the chapter provides a high-level overview of the major features of agent-based models (ABMs) and why they are particularly useful to study networks and collaboratives for public administration and public policy. Examples of published ABMs that focus on governance networks as the unit of analysis are provided, including examples drawn from education, environmental management, transportation and public service delivery. Resources are also offered.
