ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the design of the qualitative component of the Young People's Attitudes to Religious Diversity project. It describes the way in which the qualitative part of the project was conceived in the research design, also in relation to the quantitative part. The chapter presents some of the overarching themes emerging from the qualitative data and their implications for actors involved in education at the policy and school levels. It explores how they relate to the chapters reporting quantitative data. The contributions report qualitative data with reference to particular geographic and school contexts as well as specific themes. The schools were chosen a range as possible would be covered in terms of composition, location, social context and type of school. The chapter ranges the schools from inner-city Birmingham to the Scottish Islands; from urban, semi-urban and rural locations in Wales to the industrial North East; from County Tyrone in Northern Ireland to South London.
