ABSTRACT

Today tourists’ understanding of becoming an active agent in their travel experiences, moving between and among multiple localities, in an environment of transnational, interconnected social networks, is rising. Tourists are perceived as the mobile modern population of the world, soaking up information and life experiences. However, in the huge field of tourism, especially when we come to cultural or eco tourism, we should not only consider the tourists but also the social aspect of interaction with the local population and their environment. The field of sustainable tourism is based on various aspects mainly focusing on environmental and economic issues but also on social and cultural constraints. Strategies about the active involvement of local communities in tourism structures may cover many of the mentioned fields at the same time, if implemented properly.
