ABSTRACT

Over the last decades there has been a remarkable change in the international perception of and policy regarding the role and impact of gender on peace and conflict matters. The major change has been that women’s experiences in war and peace are more recognized, analyzed and integrated into policy-related work than before, and that the demand for women’s inclusion in peacemaking efforts is being voiced louder and clearer than in the past. Yet, despite these positive changes, there is work still to be done. This chapter outlines the developments that have taken place on the international stage, and some of the major challenges ahead.
