ABSTRACT

Women in Portugal are now the best-educated segment of the labour force and the majority of the members in many professions. In terms of managerial positions in general, women remain below the one-third threshold. When it comes to the very top management positions and despite some recent progress, women’s representation is still at the 10 per cent level. This chapter examines the situation of women in the labour force and reflects on recent develop - ments and challenges to women’s access to management positions in Portugal.
