ABSTRACT

Entanglement is a central part of eating. It is both a figurative way of considering eating but also what physically happens when we eat. Every time we bite into something, we become mired in more than we envision. A metabolic aspect of fish omega-3 becomes popularized through media reports of scientific research, which set into motion different connections. These take us to the Peruvian anchoveta and the campaigns that attempt to bring sardines and anchovies back into human bodies, to do their good work in helping us to feel better, be smarter, in sum, to be a living part of a fish, guts, sea entanglement, which may help further awareness of the absolute necessity of framing and enacting bio and human sustainability. As Cook et al put it, we are (un)knowingly connected to each other through the international trade that entangles a range of economic, political, social, cultural, agricultural and other processes.
