ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we present two case studies. Elizabeth Stuart, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Winchester, and Michael Holman, Principal of Heythrop College, University of London, explain how their respective Anglican and Roman Catholic traditions provide for their students an education that is distinctive and different. Whereas Winchester is faring well in the current climate, Heythrop is facing challenges which require fundamental changes to be made. These challenges arise not from being a Church foundation, since there are other buoyant and thriving Catholic universities in England, but from its small and specialist character and from factors which, as we shall see, are particular to Heythrop.
