ABSTRACT
I became a Police Officer at the age of 19. I had not been to university despite having had a grammar school education and achieving good GCE A level grades. On leaving school I thought I had convinced myself that the right thing to do was to get out into the ‘real’ world at that point, but with hindsight I think I was more heavily influenced by my parents believing that than I realised at the time.
