ABSTRACT
The Mental Health Act Commission (MHAC) undertakes visits to the three Special Hospitals (Ashworth, Rampton and Broadmoor), Trusts, Social Service Departments and Mental Nursing Homes to fulfil its duties under Section 120 of the 1983 Mental Health Act in respect to:
keeping under review the exercise of the powers and duties contained in the Act which relate to detained patients and to patients liable to be detained;
visiting and interviewing in private patients detained under the Act in hospital and nursing homes.
