ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book introduces the challenge to come to a sustainable transport system, and the role of Transition Management. It focuses on the phenomenon of transition management, which is currently of great interest in policy-making. The book also focuses on transport energy use and emissions. The issue of the acceptability of policies is also central to the contributions. The book deals with the importance and role of information in transport policy. It concerns the issue of policy evaluation. The book also deals with the theoretical notions behind the concept and the origins of the theory. It traces the translation from theoretical notions into practical implementation, and the evolution of transition processes. The book evaluates different case studies in which theory is applied to practice in order to evaluate the challenges and relevance of the theory of transition management.
