ABSTRACT

This chapter demonstrates how theory about Transition management (TM) is translated into practice, in particular the practice of individuals and institutions that are involved in the Dutch transition to sustainable mobility. It discusses the experiences of Transumo (Transition Sustainable Mobility), its TM activities within the Transumo Transition Programme (TTP), the development of a specific instrument that is applied in this programme, and the experiences within the project Rush Hour Avoidance. The chapter describes the first experiences with one of the instruments used on the project level: the transitioning instrument. It also describes how TM has been applied in the ongoing Transumo research programme, and how theory about experimenting has been translated into a practical tool to support ongoing projects concerned with practising TM. It gives a brief description of the programme activities, including examples of projects, and then derives the main lessons with regard to translating theory on transition management into the practice of ongoing programmes and projects.
