ABSTRACT

The Québec City region is the seventh largest metropolitan area in Canada, both demographically and economically, and has undergone significant transformations over the past three decades. As the capital of the province of Québec, its economy has long been centered on the governmental sector, but the region’s economy has evolved and diversified due to the expansion of its manufacturing sector and, more recently, the development of the new knowledge-based economy (high technology, information technologies, and communications sectors). At the same time, it maintained its already strong position in the insurance and tourism sectors.
