ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the central up-to-date issues of the topic tourism and borders. It proposes an integral and systematic approach to analysing inbound tourism and its international components in order to fill the research gap. It also focuses on the technical issues, restrictions, and outlook. The book contains literature that enables the reader to gain a general insight into types, scales, scope and functions of different borders, the social, economic and environmental importance and characteristics of border regions, the emergence of regionalism, and the politics of cross-border co-operation. It considers that the knowledge of modern management strategies gained in other non-peripheral destinations could be beneficial for joint destination management policies in cross-border areas in the future. The selected contemporary issue of the subject tourism and borders contain many remarks on future research on tourism and political borders.
