ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the role of quality management in non-profit networks in Scotland, UK. It highlights issues from the perspective of the Scottish Council of Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) as it faces increasing pressure to develop a quality framework for its network of constituent organizations. The chapter focuses on the relationship between the strategic objectives of not-for-profit organizations and the stakeholder evaluations. It considers how organizational competence is influenced by past experience. The chapter presents research that considers which factors are likely to influence the preparedness of a third sector for crisis. It draws attention to the issues and problems of third sector funding, and explores the typical funding model dynamics from both the funded organizations and funding body's perspectives. The chapter draws many academic research avenues currently being considered within the field of performance measurement and management in the third sector.
