ABSTRACT

During the last decades, substantial developments in the security and defence fields have led to an ongoing, major transformation of the European Armed Forces, the results of which have yet to be analyzed and comprehended fully. Global and local developments continue to influence how states, bureaucracies, non-state actors and public opinion conceive of security and defence, the role of Armed Forces, the use of military means and of war. This affects patterns of meaning-making and organizing at various levels in the security and defence fields. In processes of transformation, however, actors are not only being influenced, but also, through social interaction of various kinds, influence the processes themselves.
