ABSTRACT
The enterprising university is a competitive animal that is concerned to establish a position in the market for knowledge in order to maximise and secure its income. The www.enterprising-university.co.ukwww.enterprising-university.co.uk is, then, a proactive institution that is: Actively involved in regional partnership initiatives supporting and promoting social and economic growth. The interesting thing about enterprising-university is not simply its embrace of research partnerships with multi-national companies, government agencies and local businesses. Since www.enterprising-university.co.ukwww.enterprising-university.co.uk is compelled to operate in a contingent funding environment, it is increasingly hostile to the conduct of curiosity driven research because it tends to be unfunded or funded by Research Councils. For this reason www.enterprising-university.co.uk has sought to avoid undertaking any work for research councils and other funders, such as Joseph Rowntree Foundation, that have conventionally refused to pay overhead costs.
