      ABSTRACT

This chapter considers how workplace bullying, harassment and mobbing may be defined and several contributors have explored ways in which accusations of bullying can arise. It demonstrates the resulting effect on individuals and the workplace in general. It outlines the developments and changes that are needed to ensure that dealing effectively with workplace bullying can be achieved on personal, organizational, national and international levels. Corporate bullying and harassment policies in the UK tend to mirror disciplinary, capability and grievance policies; they involve formal processes, an investigation and a hearing. The definitions and thought provoking details in the handbook provide important information and examples to ensure it is possible to recognize bullying, mobbing or harassment at work, and to use effective techniques to deal with it. Workplace bullying injures personal health, professional relationships and the quality of the working environment; it has an extremely negative impact on workplace satisfaction and productivity and can result in legal and financial repercussions.
