ABSTRACT
In his classic definition of poverty Georg Simmel stated that a person would be poor if the means available do not suffice for the goals striven for, whereas the sociological phenomenon of poverty would not be constituted on the basis of the individual experience of want and deprivation but emerges only if the poor receive support or norms would demand that support should be given.
