ABSTRACT
This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book highlights some of the complexities, challenges and opportunities that researchers, practitioners, and policymakers should consider in order to move the area of legacy research and practice forward. The scholarship related to mega-event legacy is challenging and in a relatively early stage of development. Placing legacy research within the wider context is vitally importing when assessing the success or otherwise of a particular legacy plan in relation to a mega-event. The book also highlights how the global economic crisis that hit in the lead up to the London 2012 Games actually led to conflicting government policies around the participation legacy that underpinned the bid. It describes how corruption within sport at the societal, organisational and individual level can adversely affect attitudes toward sponsorship.
