ABSTRACT

Considering tourism as a phenomenon of distinctive directions, tourism devoted to fandom leads to different perspectives. This chapter foregrounds the motifs and dynamics of fandom travel within the fan culture around the late singer Prince over the course of 35 years. The creation of the individual world could be understood as the core to fan tourism. A distinction seems to occur between pleasure-oriented tourism and non-pleasure-oriented tourism, which is undertaken in connection with financial earnings or any kind of business or educational matters. The creation of the individual world could be understood as the core to fan tourism. Popular music fandom tourism features planned gatherings, permanent group formations, and offers compatibility to the individual work–life balance of the fans, due to their exact predictability, which was not given in the ad hoc concert organization within the cultural space and the fan community around Prince.
