ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book re-examines graduate attributes (GAs) and illuminates what they are, their purpose and their current value. It explores the extent to which a set of attributes can be generated coherently and authentically within undergraduate, postgraduate and professional learning, through an analysis of the contextual factors pertinent in the development of the Learning Graduate. The book examines the skills, attitudes and support involved in enabling students to respond positively to personal and academic problems and to developing a transformative approach to challenges. It observes the progress of graphic design students as they make the transition from further education to higher education and examine the key attributes that are understood to have enhanced the students' academic journey. The book also explores how lecturers can address and teach reflexively through aspects of aligned curriculum design and delivery, facilitating the Reflexive Graduate.
