ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the nature and practical reality of introducing initiatives that develop and nurture transferable skills and attributes (TSA) within the university setting to produce adaptable capacities within graduates. It presents a case study that sets out an approach to support the development of the adaptable graduate. For conceptual clarity it is divided into two sections. The first part, using data gathered from industry deals with the construction of lists of TSA for the case studies. The second part, or User Guide, maps the development of the two case studies and its implementation and encourages the reader to reflect on the ways in which this approach could be used in their own practice. The concept of TSA for graduates has moved from the periphery to occupy a prominent place within debates on how the university curriculum should reflect economic imperatives, employer demands and the world of work.
