ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the responses of the stakeholders to the migration of women workers from South Asia. Stakeholders engaged in migration governance often adopt various strategies to modulate cross-border population movements, of course with varying degrees of success. With the migration landscape becoming increasingly heterogeneous, existing stakeholders are redefining their roles, while new actors/forums are emerging and exerting a powerful influence. These have become vital to understanding the nuances of the migration process, outcomes and problems and the approaches to managing migration. In this context, stakeholders’ responses to women migrants, who constitute half of the international migrant stock and often migrate for work without family, deserve considerable attention.
