ABSTRACT
It is obvious that the lives of things and practices are mutually constituted and densely interwoven. It is also obvious that really significant trends like the massive increase in carbon dioxide emissions over the last few decades are outcomes of what Schatzki (2010a) describes as ‘practice-arrangement’ nexuses. Situated in the space between these two opening sentences, the purpose of this chapter is to develop a practice theoretically compatible account of material relations that helps conceptualise rapid increases in per capita energy demand.
