ABSTRACT
Theatre transcends boundaries, moving narratives through various contexts—be it temporal, political, social, cultural, spiritual, etc. Narratives are the cornerstone to understanding who we are as distinct peoples. Erasure of narratives is essentially an erasure of the critical tapestry that engenders a people. This chapter frames the demise of the Hawaiian language through colonization, its subsequent renaissance beginning in the 1970s, and a few roles that Hawaiian-medium theatre plays within the revitalization of Hawaiian.
