ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the issues related to working as part of a team. It seeks to identify key features of effective partnerships and collaborative working that ensure the highest quality provision for every child. The chapter provides an overview of the different groups of professionals who work together to support children's development. It explores ways in which the professionals can work effectively with parents and carers and provides an understanding of the centrality of the child to all who work together. The chapter considers the role of the wider community and provides an understanding of effective professional partnerships. Children spend more time with their families than they do in early years settings and schools so it is vitally important that professionals have an effective working relationship with families, parents and carers. Professionals need to be well trained to work effectively in the home and it should not be seen as simply an extension of the work in the setting.
