ABSTRACT

This chapter provides you with an overview of some of the areas deemed to be critical to success when managing community sport facilities in the dynamic and challenging environment evident in the UK in recent years. These include organisations’ finance and staffing and are exemplified by three case study facilities situated within the city of Sheffield. Although Sheffield focussed, the concepts and challenges identified are transferrable across the country as well as mirroring similar situations in the wider global sector. Within the chapter, you find an introduction to the historical provision of sport facilities in the UK, overviews of the case study facilities and a consideration of the challenges and opportunities community sport facilities face.
