ABSTRACT

‘Sowing Dance’ is a pedagogical project for the inclusion of dance as an artistic language for the six month to three year old age groups in public schools in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The project takes place in Mesquita city, a town about forty kilometers from Rio de Janeiro. In Brazil the guidelines in the school curriculum allow for at least one artistic language to be taught from nursery through to high school. Dance, in the first stage of early childhood education, is called ‘Body and Movement’, and from three years of age on it is called ‘Dancing’.
