ABSTRACT
The McGraw-Hill research goes on to suggest that an increasing percentage of architects, engineers and contractors will see the majority of their work as green in the coming years. Construction 2025, launched in 2013 by the then Business Minister Michael Fallon, set out ambitious targets in four key measurable areas which included a 50 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the built environment. During the preparation of previous editions of this book, sustainability and green issues were discussed by few in the construction industry in the course of their day-to-day business. Concerns about climate change and the environment can be traced back several centuries, although it was not until the late 1960s when organisations such as Greenpeace were formed that it came to public attention. Various attempts have been made to define the term 'sustainable or green construction'.
