ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses one aspect of globalization that is often overlooked - the importance of the experience of international students in host institutions. It provides an overview of a number of considerations that law schools should take into account when thinking about how to ensure that having a multi-national student body enhances the experience of all students and integrates into the wider strategic internationalization aims of the school rather than sitting awkwardly aside them. Universities and law schools have tended to embrace this trend for a whole range of reasons. Students used to a more formal learning culture can find it unsettling and unclear unless it is explained to them expressly. Domestic students should see that creating friendships and understanding with students from other countries offers enormous intellectual, cultural and personal opportunities for them. The first issue for law schools to take into account when trying to create a high quality multi-national classroom is the make-up of the student body.
