ABSTRACT

Resources companies often face more challenges than companies operating in other sectors, especially when seeking to balance economic interest with the environmental and social risks embedded in their operations. This chapter compares the governance and corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices of China’s resources companies with their global peers focusing on environmental and community governance. Specifically, this chapter looks closely at CSR practices of PetroChina and MMG and compares these with the practices of global resources companies such as BHP and Anglo American.
