ABSTRACT

Political interest in the arts, health and well-being agenda is growing across all health and community disciplines. There are opportunities to develop creative partnerships, drawing on the combination of skills and experience of all involved for evidence-based research. This chapter provides a review of recent published literature on art therapy and trauma, including studies with veterans. The breadth of examples serves to illustrate key areas of ongoing interest and exploration. The subsequent text highlights further relevant studies from the US and the UK before offering recommendations for future research.

The Combat Stress studies discussed have aimed to engage the veterans at all stages, both in development and in participation in order to allow the voices of service users and their creative experiences to be heard and thus elaborated on.
