ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to explore the ‘implicit’ aspects of organisational life and the ‘dark (or shadow) side’ of how organisations really operate. It shows the importance of paying attention to these aspects in order to have a genuine and lasting impact.

Key questions:

How does change really happen in organisations?

How does an understanding of organisational politics contribute to the work of Organisation Development (OD)?

How can OD practitioners engage with the realities of organisational life without colluding with the negative?
