ABSTRACT

The writing of this chapter with a case study description aims to be faithful to the very theme of phrónêsis as practical wisdom. The work of Flyvbjerg (2002, 2004) suggests the paradoxical nature of arguing theoretically about a methodology. Moreover, with the subject matter, phrónêsis, of a practical nature, it seems apt to use tools of expression which suggest the content. Narrative description is used to disclose the background, rationale and some lived moments of a supervision group (hereafter called the Circle) with PhD candidates. The goal for the Circle is to stimulate the practice of the art and craft of embodied, situated and contextualized research. In this context, research itself becomes a practice for a professional group engaged in dialogue that grapples with making sense of, understanding and interpreting PhD researching practice.
