ABSTRACT

Blood Stem Cell Transplantation (BSCT) is a miracle of modernist science allowing people with leukaemia to be rescued from their imminent death. Cutting edge science, technology, medical science and blood discourses intersect in BSCT. The evolution of BSCT from nuclear weapon research and development further imbues BSCT with an aura of complexity, technology and of man conquering nature. The medical term for this process is Haemopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation but such a term subjugates the social and cultural understandings surrounding blood. Blood Stem Cell Transplantation is deliberately used in this work to include wider understandings of blood stem cell transplantation.
